As I am continuing to move forward in my book I have learned a lot of new things about the characters. Ellen has learned that her older brother Link and his best friend James might be gay for each other. It was no surprise to me because of how close they were I figured they were gay for each other but Ellen never really thought of it that way. Her friend that she sits with Adena pointed it out. Now that she pointed it out to Ellen, all she wants to know is the truth is James and Link gay for each other or not? When Ellen asked this boldly worded question to the two of them James gave his answer of a not so sure but a maybe. On the other hand for Link he totally avoided the question and flat out was offended and said no. James and Ellen both knew that he blew off the question because the thought of him being gay scares Link. As for James he said it doesn't scare him because love is love but he still isn't sure what he feels. What James wants is for Link to open up to him and Ellen and just be honest and tell them how he feels about all this instead of avoiding the question. Not only is Link angry about this being brought up, he is avoiding James and Ellen. He hates the fact of being gay so much he got a girlfriend named Polly who has been in love with him since he was in the seventh grade. I don't really think he likes her he is just using he to hide his feelings and to make people forget about all this. So for right now I'm not really sure what he wants. But if I were to get I would say he wants to find himself. Some themes that are popping out in the book are Hiding from what defines you is not going to lead you to where you need to be. Another one is don't waste a moment in your life go after whatever you believe in. The book is structured by starting with capital letters in the first sentence of every chapter. Then for the first two pages or so it further explains what happened in the previous chapter. Then it goes on to the new problem. Leading it to the hooking dialogue making you want to read the next chapter.

Drama,confusion,and conflict is all this book is about called My Heartbeat by Garrett Freymann-Weyr. So far I have read four chapters and I can't stop reading it! The main characters introduced so far in the book are Ellen who is going into 9th grade at Cedar Hill and she is very scared because she has trouble making friends. Although she is very close to her family especially Link her older brother who is going to be a senior and is a track star and loves math. Then there is James Link's best friend who Ellen is madly in love with (she thinks he's super hot). Together they all hangout by watching old Swedish movies and going out to random places. Personally I think it's cool she is so close with her brother and his best friend. The setting takes place in Maine and so far in the book it's mostly at Ellen and Link's house because that's where they all hang out at. Soon though summer will be over and the setting will change because school is starting up again at Cedar Hill High School where they have to where god awful uniforms. That's not the biggest problem though, like I said before Ellen is shy and at her old school her teachers had conferences with her parents about her social skills. So her main worry is how is she going to make friends? How will she start fresh with a new personality? She really wants to make and effort to make more friends and be more social. Will she accomplish that? I think that Ellen can pull it off on being more social and making more friends as long as she puts her self out there more and tries new things. Ellen also has two people in her life that care about her (Link and James) and I think that they will help her transition through the new school. James and Ellen also sometimes sort of flirt so I think they will connect somewhere along the book. As for Link, I think he will be very successful his senior year because he's so smart and he's a track star so he has a lot going for him. I can connect with Ellen because I know what it feels like to start at a new school and really try to have a fresh start. I think James is a lot like Lucas from the show One Tree Hill because Lucas is very charming and loves to read and James is exactly like that.

                     Logan and Beth are very close now and finally Beth is seeing that Logan can be the one for her. They finally go on a date (about time) and they really seemed to be hitting it off at the date. For example on pg 231 Bet said to Logan '" You're a terrific guy. You're smart,you work hard,you're kind,and you're great with Ben."' This shows how Beth is finally really starting to appreciate Logan and see who Logan really is.

                   I know that I keep saying oh they're getting closer and you're probably like jeez when are they going to be together. Well like I always say...they're getting closer but before you get all mad I give it about 20 pages tops for them to be together because they are really getting there. I know this for sure because Beth is really starting to open up to Logan and that's usually a sign they're comfortable with each other so they will be together soon! For example on page 183 it said '"I finally got around to sending it, but the letter was eventually returned to me unopened. Drake died in the first week of invasion."' This shows how open she is to him because she's really sensitive of her brother's death and for her to have the guts to talk about it with him, it just shows how much she cares and how comfortable she is with him.

              Well after the night that Logan and Beth spent together, I definately think that they will get together soon. Yes I know that I've been saying this forever now but I really think they will. The only problem is.... neither of them will come forward and say they like each other! For example on page 170 it sai "For a long time, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep, wondering if maybe, just maybe, Logan was awake and thinking of her, too." Come on Beth!! Seriously? Just tell him!! I just wish that he came all this way just to find her and now they both like each other but they're still not together!! Ugh so frustrating....

 

                 This book is very good already nut what makes a book good? The use of repition, anaphoras, etc. Well Nicholas Sparks uses a lot of that. Some examples are first on pg 172 it says " Are you saying I owe this woman something?" this is an example of a rhetorical question and it really helped be understand what's going on and it just makes the reader stop and think. Another example is on page 170 it say "It was more like a friendly get-together---tacos, chess, and conversation." This dashed line really helped the reader stop for a minute and figure out the meaning of this line and what is going on.

     Logan and Beth are finally getting along and bonding!! For so long they have been just strictly buisness employees at the dog kennel and they only got along for Nana's sake. Since Nana's been gone for a little though, They have bonded and actually got along.

 

    The best part is, she might like him more than a friend? I'm sure yet but I definately predict she does because it said "He laughed, and for the first time, Beth was conscious of how how long it had been since she'd had a conversation like this"(Sparks 131). This shows me how Logan is getting to her and he's making her feel a lot better than she did before which is good because she might start to potentionally form feelings for him.                 

   

The Lucky One Update.

 

               It's always sad to have someone really close to you leave for a while because you feel lost without them. Well That's what Beth is going through right now with Nana. Nana aka the owner of the dog kennel and Logan's boss, is leaving for a little because she doesn't feel like herself right now and is going to visit her sister. Not only though is Beth not wanting her to leave because she will miss her but she also has health problems and Beth will not be there in case something were to happen and that worries her. But Nana is going to be fine I think because she is very strong and independent. For example it says "What was going to happen when Nana didn't want to admit to them?" This shows how Nana is very independent and always wants to do things on her own even when it comes down to her worsed.

              Nana leaving maybe sad for Beth but....not for me! I mean yeah it is sad but it's not like she's gone forever just for a little while. Now that Nana is gone for a little, this means Logan and Beth can possibly get to know each other better. I mean at least I hope because this is the perfect time to with Nana being gone only because Logan and Nana are already pretty close and know each other. Beth has been so busy with taking care of Nana and now that she's leaving for a little she can get to know Logan better.

                       The line that I thought was best written was "Does someone actually think we know how to tell when he has a fever? Should we really be entrusted with using tiny clippers to cut the fingernails of a jerky infant?" I thought his because it's very good rhetorical questions and it really impacts the reader's thoughts and it helps understand better what's going on.

 

                       Ramsey's writing style is a lot orf rhetorical questions including the third one above and two more in the other columns each and this really helps understand what is going on.

                 Are they in love or are they just friends? Recently I'm not sosure because it's not that they are not close or anything like that but they are just not having "sparks" that I thought they would. Beth really admires that Logan bonds with Ben I think but does she just appreciate that or does it make her like him for more than just friends? I'm really hoping they become more than just friends because they are really good for each other.

                 Hopefully my predictions are correct that Logan and Beth are going to be more than friends. Maybe right now they either don't think it's a good time or they are just scared to com out and admit that they like each other.

                 Recently in my book, Logan grows a connection with not Elizabeth quite yet, but her son instead. It's no secret that Ben and his father do not get along very well because they are different in so many ways plus the fact that Ben's father just doesn't know how to get his attention. But Logan however does because he understands what it's like to be different. At first though, I just thought that Logan was just using Ben to get Elizabeth's attention but then I kept reading and that change my mind. I think this because in the book on page 50 it said " She remembered thanking him for it once, but he just shrugged. 'I just like spending time with him,' he'd say the way of explanation."

 

                 I definately predict though that Logan and Ben will still bond very strongly but I also think that Logan and Elizabeth will start to bond as well. Right now I don't really think there is any new kind of conflict other than the conflict still happening where it's Logan still trying to get Elizabeth to notice him.

                   Not everyone's kids are athletically talented. Some are kind, smart, etc. Just like Beth's son. He is not very athletically talented but he's very passionate on not giving up. Beth's son is very kind hearted, smart, and a hard worker on not giving up. The only thing he struggles with is keeping up with the other kids athletically. Hid dad and Beth's ex wife is angry at this which just put him down more and struggle more.

 

                   The type of conflict Beth's son is facing is text vs. self because he has to figure out on his own how he isn't going to let his dad put him down and how he is going to over come his struggle athletically.

   Are they really just friends or are they more than friends? Well recently while I've been reading this book and they are starting to grow closer as more than friends. It seems that she has finally got over the fact that she has more than just a friend feeling for him. That makes him very happy because for the past month he has been wanting this and for him it seemed like forever.

 

   I hope that they keep this though because they seem to fight sometimes so that might be a problem. Besides that I do think they are perfect for each other and I predict that they will fall in love. Some questions I have are why did it take her so long to realize she liked him more than a friend? Another one is will they last?

Final Blog Assessment

                 My blog show my voice with specific words and techniques by it adds some emphasis to my blogs and makes the blogs more interesting and more readable. One way I did this was when I said "I think this because for one, Romeo and Juliet both died and never reunited with each other"(Romeo and Juliet post). This shows how I used reunited to describe what was going on. Another example of my voice is when it said "This infuriated Romeo and he ended up killing Tybalt and he was forced to leave town by the Prince" (Romeo and Juliet post). This showed my voice by I used the word infuriated to show the tone Romeo was feeling.


                  In my blog, I used certain diction to explain my opininion on the book I was blogging about. An example of me doing this is when it said "Also many of Romeo and Juliet's family members were killed because of their rivalry" (Romeo and Juliet post). This shows diction because I used the word rivalry to describe it was a seriouse tone. An example I used for syntax was when it said "In the beginning of the story romeo was very depressed because he was in love with this girl but she wasn't in love with him back because she was a nun" (Romeo and Juliet post). This line shows the tone on how sad it was.

           In the Lucky One so far he goes out of town and gets a job as a animal farm caretaker. But he still has this picture of this girl that he found when he was overseas. When he went to go apply for this job, he found the girl that was in the picture. I predict that for sure he fell in love with her when he first laid eyes on her.

 

            Some questions I have for this is how is it even possible that he found the girl in the picture? Another one is will he tell her how he knows her? Will she be frightened if he does tell her? Will she fall in love with him?

 

            The type of conflict they are going through is text to world. I  know this because in the book they both lost a piece pf themselves to the tragedy of overseas.

            I just started this book and it is about this guy who just returned from over seas and is going through a traumatic time because he went through an explosion losing a lot of friends. So he returned home to his family and got to see his dog. Right now he is facing a text to self conflict because he is being put down by his memories. Hopefully soon things will get better for him. I predict that he will try and find a hobby or something to get these memories away.

 

           Right now I really like the lucky one because it's very interesting on how the author describes this man's story. Also the way he describes the scenes make it very visual. So this book is very detailed but doesn't take forever to get to the point which is good.

Fahrenheit 451 Reveiw

 

      In this book, it takes place in the future and and the main character is Montag who is a firefighter. But in the future of firefighters, they instead of preventing them they make them by taking books in peoples houses and burn them. The reason why they burn all the books is because in the future time it is illegal to read. Montag has a wife named Mildred and she is not the brightest all she does is watch TV all day.

 

      When Montag went to work one day someone refused to leave their house because they didnt want to leave their books. So beacuse of this it made Montag curious and anxious to see whats so great about reading. When he did this he liked the books and continued to read them and strated sneaking them to take them home. Soon though Mildred Montag's wife found out and she was freaked out so she tried to burn them. Then she at least tried to read them but she didn't understand them because she wasn't the brightest.

Mocking Jay Update

 

 As the tention and conflict are rising in Katniss. She still continues to try and fight for freedom and have an equal life of the rich. So far though, it is not going well because Katniss is starting to make President Snow angry. Resulting in this, President Snow is threatening Katniss by saying if she does not stop rebelling, then he will harm the ones that she loves.

    

 

Katniss is starting to lose hope because she doesn't want to hurt the ones she loves. I predict that she will come up with the plan of running away with all of them and then later on coming back to rebel to makes things right. I would say right now this conflict is text to self because Katniss is trying to make the choice of helping her family or helping making things right.
