Romeo and Juliet
We just finished the play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. I thought it was a very good play but the words and how it was set up was very challenging to understand at first. For example when they used the word thy, thou, tis, etc. After we started really getting into the play though, I started to pick up on what they were saying a lot easier.

In the beginning of the story romeo was very depressed because he was in love with this girl but she wasn't in love with him back because she was a nun. Soon though Juliet came along and Romeo fell deeply in love with her and she fell deeply in love with him. This was a problem though because Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet and these two families hated each other. During the end of the play Tybalt (Juliet's cousin) got into it with Mercurtio (Romeo's cousin) and Tybalt ended up killing him. This infuriated Romeo and he ended up killing Tybalt and he was forced to leave town by the Prince. When Juliet found out he left, she drank a sleeping potion to pretend to be dead to loer Romeo back into town. When Romeo found out she was "dead" he drank a poison potion and it killed him. When Juliet found out he was dead, she stabbed her self dead.

I think this is a Tragedy play. I think this because for one, Romeo and Juliet both died and never reunited with each other. Also the families didn't like each other so they couldn't be together. Also many of Romeo and Juliet's family members were killed because of their rivalry.

Mocking Jay
I have started reading the third and final hunger games book called Mocking Jay by Susanne Collins. I really wanted to read this book because I just saw catching fire and I really want to know what happens next. In this book so far, Katniss is discovering what really happened to district 12. While she was gone, her district was attacked and destroyed by the government. Luckily though her mom, her sister Prim, and Gale and his family escaped and made it out ok.

I predict that Katniss will try to get revenge with the government because she was already infuriated with them about making her go back to the arena. I also predict that she will put a stop to all the hunger games or at least try because in the book she was tired of being pushed around by the government and she seem like she wanted to put a stop to all of it.

Reflect on Blog Post
One thing I really struggled with in my experience of blogging was finding good textual evidence to support my answers. I struggled with this because I didn't really know what good evidence would support my answers. How I worked through this struggle was I just found maybe two or three pieces of evidence and then I would pick about two of the three pieces of evidence I would find and use that for my answer to support it. Another thing I had trouble doing a lot was using good reads. Also I really didn't comment on peoples blogs that much. One strength I had blogging was finding the conflict like man vs. man, man vs. society, etc.

My best blog is here http://masontsblog1.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-theme-of-bad-boy-is-that-do-not-let_17.html. I thought this blog was my best blog over all the other ones because in this blog I explained the theme of the book which was Bad Boy by Dream Jordan and I thought I explained it very well. For example I gave the theme of the book in one sentence following that with about two to three quotes for why I think this is the theme and then I explained why the quotes I chose prove that this was the theme for the book. I also talked about how one of the characters in the book changed a lot. What I did was I stated how the character changed and then I did the same thing I put two to three quotes in my blog supporting how it changed following by how the quotes that I chose show how the character has changed.

Some goals that I have for the next trimester for reading is to improve citing textual evidence to support my answers better. Also I want to be able to finish more books. Then I want to not all the time write about my independent reading book but also write about some news articles I read etc. And I want to use good reads more next trimester and comment on more peoples blogs as well.  For writing goals I want to improve on writing imagery in my pieces better. Also I really think I need to work on using semicolons and commas in certain sentences. Finally I want to work on my evidence for the readers to figure out what the theme is of my piece.

I just got done reading some articles in the "Chronicle" and they do a very nice job writing it. I know this because they keep the readers engaged and they do not bore the readers they get right to the point. They also use a lot figurative luanguage which I think is really good to do in writing. They also do not just talk about school related things they mix it up alittle and talk about some of the un school related problems.

In the newspapers they use evidence to back up their problems at the school like interveiwing people on their opinions which I think is good. They also give you the news stories you can find them on which is good.

I just read an article in the Mason newspaper about how teen carpolling might become restricted to carpolling only one person. I think that's absolutely ridiculous because even though it doesn't affect me yet, I think it's unfair to restrict only one person because it wastes so much more gas and time because now people have to find different rides.

Someone in the article said that if there restricting on person then they obviously do not think I'm responsible. Which is 100% true. If they can't have more than one person in the car, then they obviously have major trust issues with teens which could be a major problem.
You guys I am about to finish a book so if anyone could comment some book titles for my next book to read that would be great! Here are some genres I really enjoy.

  • Drama
  • Mystery
  • Romance
  • Fiction
  • Nonfiction
So far, in my book The Fault in Our Stars Augustus and Hazel are far past friends and they are starting to become more than friends. I knew it all along! but now it seems that they are both starting to worsen in their cancer. What will happen next? I guess I will read on and find out!

Yesterday I read an article about roadkill and how they are going to start letting people take them off the road to make them into meals. Well do you want to know what I think about that? That is absolutely discusting! There is so much bacteria on those animals and germs it's ridiculous and you want to eat them? Well whatever I guess that's on you then.

Some states are starting to let this happen because it's helping them get rid of all the dead animals on the road. Also they said "Why not eat it? Don't let good food go to waste." What they need to remember though is that eating roadkill could severely hurt someone and make them really sick.

Blog update

So far in my book Augustus and Hazel are still continuing to grow closer. I really think and predict that they are going to fall in love because they have so much in common and the way they talk they like click in some way. They also have been spending a whole lot of time together so I predict that they will continue to hang out and spend time with each other a lot. They both also share the common factor that they both have cancer so I ask myself are they going to fight their cancer together?

Connections that are going on is text to text because Augustus and Hazel are really starting to connect with each other. Another connection is text to self. This connection takes place because I can relate to feeling like i'm getting closer to someone I just met because we have so much in common.

The Fault in Our Stars
From what I have been reading so far it has been a really good book and I highly recommend it. If you like the following such as drama, romance, and emotional then this is the book for you! In this book the text is so well detailed and explained! Also the author uses really good imagery so you you can really get a sense of whats going on in the book. The author also makes the charactors very well-developed.

This book in my opinion so far deserves five stars because it has very good description, dialogue and imagery. It also sets areally good tone in the book and describes very well but to the point on how the characters are feeling. The author also gives a very good sense of forshadowing in the book like whats going to happen next. The book is very good with making connections, I have already made text to self, and text to world connections with this book. This book is by far one of the best books I have read so far.

The Fault in Our Stars

The book I have recently read is The Fault in Our Stars. It is about a girl named Hazel Grace who is diagnosed with lung cancer and she goes to this meeting group for other people who were diagnosed with some type of cancer and while she was there she met a guy named Augustus Waters and they are now started to create a bonding relaitionship. I predict that they are really going to click throughout the book. I think this because the fact that Augustus has bone cancer and Hazel has lung cancer, thats a thing they have in common plus their high knowledge so these things they share I think will bring them together. Questions that I have for now is will there be more to Augustus and Hazel in the future? Will they become more than friends? What are Augustus's thoughts on Hazel?

A few text to self connections I have with this book is Augustus's parents seem to be taking his bone cancer hard since he was recently diagnosed with it. I can relate to their pain because a couple years ago my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer and it was hard for me to get used to. Another text to self connection I have is Hazel feels like she can't do anything because she has cancer in the beginning of the book and i felt like that in a situation similar to that. A text to world connection I have is this book there are multiple teens with cancer and in our world there are thousands or maybe more with cancer as well. Another connection I have is one of the teens girlfriends still loves him even though he has cancer. Well in our world, we have to learn to love each other not by our looks, but for who we are.

Bad Boy

The theme of Bad Boy is to not let manipulation continue once it’s been diagnosed, because if you do things will continue to get worse.   I think this is the theme because in the book Percy started to become very bossy and Kate thought he would stop.  For example in the book it says ‘“Wow, sweetheart, you look really good… but why didn’t you fix your hair?”’ ‘”Yeah I know,”’ I stuttered, ‘”but you didn’t give me enough time to get ready.”’ ‘”Oh so it’s my fault?”’ Percy asked with raised eyebrows. ‘”No, no, I’m not saying that-“’ ‘”Forget it,”’ interrupted Percy.  This shows how Percy was playing mind games with Kate and making her lose herself of steam.  If Kate doesn’t stop these mind games things will get worse for her. Also the manipulation level will start to increase rapidly in their relationship if Kate doesn’t put an end to it.

Kate in the beginning of the book was very complex and independent, but when she started dating Percy her independence and individuality started to fade away. For example it said “We drove to Brooklyn heights, the ritzy part of Brooklyn. When I got out of the car, Percy looked me up and down. ‘Oh snap, you look like a pumpkin all dressed in orange’ he said, chuckling, ‘but at least your hair looks decent this time.”’ This shows how Percy is slowly starting to take away Kate’s confidence by a lot.
